2.2 Earth's apparent LTI Climate control system
Earth’s Climate control system generally appears to be LTI
Understanding LTI systems is very useful, because there appears to be both a Linear and Time-Invariant relationship between the 3 most important Climate Change variables measured by climate scientists:
The CO2 ppm level appears to directly affect the Average Earth Temperature in a reasonably predictably Linear and Time-Invariant way.
The Average Earth Temperature appears to directly affect the Sea Level in a reasonably predictably Linear and Time-Invariant way.
Looking at the 400,000 year graph below, it appears that the CO2 ppm level, Average Earth Temperature, and Sea Level, all follow roughly the same relative levels and track together over time. There’s definitely some ‘higher frequency ringing oscillations’ and ‘noise’ however it does look like an LTI system.
Humans better hope it’s an LTI system !
If it is an LTI system, then humanity actually has a very short window of opportunity to potentially correct the Climate Change error.
But how much time do we really have ?
