1.11 Global Energy needs
The reason for global growth in CO2 emissions
Gas, Oil & Coal products are being increasingly consumed by humans around the world who all use Energy in trillions of different products and services. The need for Energy will never stop.
As global populations continue to increase, this need for Energy will also increase:
Coal is almost all used for generating extremely large amounts of electricity in power stations.
Oil is primarily used for fuelling various types of combustion engines, manufacturing most plastics, many other industrial fuel applications, and some lubrication applications.
Gas is primarily used for residential, commercial, and industrial heating applications, and various chemical & industrial applications.
Grand Total energy consumption is about 580 ExaJoules/Year
Fundamentally, most of this is just Energy product use:
in a form that is easily and safely transportable, and
provides a densely compacted amount of Energy, with
a large amount of power within a small physical volume.
Most of this Energy can be provided by non-CO2-emitting methods.
